Get a Healthy Gut

Gut health plays a vital role in many of your body’s functions. The human gastro-intestinal tract is home to more than 100 trillion microorganisms. These bacteria in your digestive system help your body to properly digest food, protect you from toxins and pathogens, improve your immune system, and achieve optimal brain health. Many conditions are linked as a contributing factor to having unhealthy gut flora such as hormonal imbalances, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, diabetes, anxiety, depression, eczema, and other chronic health problems.

Some indications of having an unhealthy gut include:

  • Bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation
  • Food allergies or sensitivities
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Skin outbreaks
  • Diabetes
  • Autoimmune disease

So what do you do about it? First, remove foods that negatively affect your gut bacteria including gluten, grains, dairy, eggs, corn and soy. Eliminate these foods until your symptoms subside. This elimination diet typically needs to last for one to six months. You also need to remove organisms that are negatively affecting your gut such as parasites, yeast, and bad bacteria with herbal supplementation. Second, you need to replace the bacteria in your system so that your body has the correct quantity and quality of healthy microorganisms. This can be done through eating vegetables and fruits, fermented foods, and proper supplementation. Third, your gut also needs repair which comes through the use of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.
